Prep Ahead: Your Secret to Effortless Deliciousness
One of the standout features of these Grilled Salmon Burritos is how well they lend themselves to advance preparation. With multiple components contributing to their rich flavor profile, breaking down the cooking process can significantly reduce last-minute stress. All the main elements – from the zesty chipotle cream to the seasoned salmon and rice mixture – can be prepared hours or even a day ahead. This foresight means that when dinner time rolls around, you’re only about 10 minutes away from assembling and pan-frying these exquisite burritos, transforming a potentially complex meal into a quick and convenient culinary experience.
The Star Sauce: Irresistible Chipotle Cream
No salmon burrito is complete without a sensational sauce, and our easy 2-ingredient chipotle cream is undeniably the hero of this dish. This creamy, smoky, and slightly spicy condiment elevates every mouthful, tying all the robust flavors together. To create this marvel, simply combine 1/2 cup of creamy sour cream with three finely minced chipotle peppers in adobo sauce. The adobo sauce itself adds a fantastic depth of flavor and a beautiful reddish hue. For those who prefer a milder kick, feel free to adjust the amount of chipotle peppers to suit your personal heat preference. This versatile cream isn’t just for burritos; it’s also fantastic on tacos, as a dip for veggies, or drizzled over grilled chicken.
The Hearty Base: A Savory Rice Mixture
Every great burrito needs a solid foundation, and our flavorful rice mixture provides just that. A cup of perfectly cooked white rice forms the base, which is then enhanced with the addition of sweet corn and earthy black beans. A generous squeeze of fresh lime juice brightens the entire mixture, adding a zesty counterpoint to the richness of the other ingredients. For an extra layer of freshness and authentic Mexican flair, consider stirring in some finely chopped fresh cilantro. While white rice is specified, feel free to substitute it with brown rice for added fiber and a nuttier flavor, making this dish even more wholesome.

Perfectly Grilled: Southwest Seasoned Salmon
The star protein of these burritos is undoubtedly the salmon. Known for its flaky texture and rich, buttery flavor, salmon takes on a new dimension when seasoned with our vibrant Southwest spice blend. We coat the salmon fillets with aromatic ground cumin and a touch of chipotle chili powder. This combination not only imparts a smoky, earthy flavor but also adds a delightful warmth that complements the fish beautifully. While chipotle chili powder amplifies the chipotle theme of the dish and provides an extra layer of heat, regular chili powder can be used as a milder alternative if desired. The salmon is then cooked to perfection in a grill pan or on an outdoor grill, developing a beautiful char and ensuring a moist, tender interior.
Assembling Your Masterpiece: Grilled Salmon Burritos
Bringing all these incredible components together is the most exciting part. The assembly process is straightforward, ensuring each burrito is packed with an optimal balance of flavors and textures. Start with a large, warm flour tortilla as your canvas. Then, generously layer the flavorful rice mixture, tender pieces of grilled salmon, thinly sliced red onion, creamy avocado, a sprinkle of shredded Mexican cheese, and a dollop of that exquisite chipotle cream. Each ingredient plays a vital role, contributing to a harmonious and deeply satisfying experience. Carefully fold the bottom and sides of the tortilla over the filling, then roll it up tightly to create a neat, compact burrito, ready for its final delicious step.

The Crispy Finish & Perfect Pairings
Once assembled, these burritos get a final treatment that sets them apart: a quick pan-fry or grill until golden brown and crispy. This step not only adds a delightful crunch but also helps to seal the burrito and slightly melt the cheese, enhancing the overall experience. Serve these spectacular grilled salmon burritos immediately, perhaps with an extra side of chipotle cream for dipping, or a squeeze of fresh lime for an added zing.
To complete your meal, consider these fantastic side dishes that perfectly complement the vibrant flavors of the burritos:
- Chipotle Corn Salad: A fresh and zesty salad that echoes the chipotle notes in the burritos.
- Chipotle Chicken Pasta Salad: For those who love a hearty pasta salad with a smoky twist.
- Perfect Mexican Rice: A classic pairing that enhances the Tex-Mex theme.
- Jalapeno Popper Grilled Corn Salad: A creamy, spicy, and crunchy side that adds another layer of excitement.
- Fire-Roasted Salsa: The ultimate fresh condiment for dipping or adding inside your burrito.
These sides not only round out the meal but also offer additional opportunities to explore the delicious world of Southwestern and Mexican-inspired cuisine. Whether you’re hosting a casual dinner or simply looking for a new family favorite, these grilled salmon burritos with chipotle cream are sure to impress with their rich flavors and satisfying textures.

Ingredients
Chipotle Cream
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 3 chipotle peppers in adobo sauce,, finely chopped
Rice Mixture
- 1 cup cooked corn kernels., you can use fresh, canned or frozen
- 1 cup cooked white rice
- 1 cup canned black beans,, rinsed and drained
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
Salmon
- 4 (6-ounce) salmon fillets
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon chipotle chili powder
- salt and pepper
- olive oil
Remaining Ingredients
- 2 medium red onions,, sliced
- 4 large flour tortillas
- 2 avocados,, sliced
- 1 cup shredded Mexican cheese
Instructions
-
In a small bowl, combine sour cream and finely chopped chipotle peppers. Mix well and set aside.
-
In a medium bowl, combine the cooked white rice, corn kernels (fresh, canned, or frozen), rinsed and drained black beans, and fresh lime juice. Season lightly with salt and pepper to taste. Mix gently and set aside.
-
Prepare the salmon fillets by seasoning them generously with ground cumin, chipotle chili powder (or regular chili powder), salt, and black pepper. Drizzle each fillet with a little olive oil to help with grilling.
-
Heat a grill pan over medium-high heat or preheat your outdoor gas grill. Once hot, place the seasoned salmon fillets skin side up (if applicable) on the grill. Cook for 4-6 minutes until nicely charred and the fish begins to flake. Flip the salmon and continue cooking for another 3-5 minutes, or until cooked through and opaque in the center. Let the salmon cool slightly, then cut it into bite-sized pieces. Remove the skin if desired.
-
While the salmon cools, prepare the red onions. Drizzle the sliced red onions with a little olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Grill the onions on the same grill pan or outdoor grill until they are softened and have nice char marks on both sides. (Tip: If space allows, you can grill the onions alongside the salmon).
-
Warm the large flour tortillas. This can be done briefly on the grill, in a dry pan, or in the microwave until they are pliable and easy to fold.
-
To assemble each burrito, lay a warm tortilla flat. In the center, pile a portion of the rice mixture, some grilled onions, pieces of the grilled salmon, slices of fresh avocado, a sprinkle of shredded Mexican cheese, and about 2 tablespoons of the prepared chipotle cream. Fold the bottom edge of the tortilla up over the filling, then fold in the sides, and finally, roll it up tightly from bottom to top to create a compact burrito.
-
Lightly brush the assembled burritos with a touch of olive oil. Return them to the hot grill pan or grill and cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until they are golden brown and crispy on the outside. Serve immediately and enjoy your delicious Grilled Salmon Burritos!
