Whether you’re planning a Father’s Day celebration, a backyard barbecue to welcome summer, or just craving delicious grilled pork, this recipe for super tender ribs is your go-to. Honey Chipotle Ribs - super tender, easy to make, and packed with sweet and spicy flavor. Perfect for grilling season.

Pork: The Unrivaled Star of Grilling Season

As the weather warms and longer days invite us outdoors, grilling becomes a favorite pastime. And when it comes to the ultimate grilling protein, pork consistently shines. Its incredible versatility means there’s a cut for every occasion and every palate. From juicy pork burgers to succulent ribs, tender chops, and flavorful bratwurst, pork provides endless options for your summer menus. This grilling season, make pork your must-have ingredient. It’s perfect for major holidays like Memorial Day and the Fourth of July, special occasions like Father’s Day, or simply a casual weeknight dinner with family and friends.

Honey Chipotle Ribs are easy to make and guaranteed to be tender, offering a delightful sweet and spicy kick.

Demystifying Ribs: Achieving Fall-Off-The-Bone Tenderness

Many home cooks feel intimidated by the idea of cooking ribs, fearing a dry or tough result. But I’m here to tell you: it doesn’t have to be complicated! The secret to incredibly tender ribs lies in a simple two-step method: precooking them in the oven before finishing them on the grill. This technique ensures that your ribs reach that desirable fall-off-the-bone tenderness without requiring hours of constant attention over a hot grill. You get all the benefits of slow cooking and the delicious char and smoky flavor of outdoor grilling, making the process virtually foolproof.

Honey Chipotle Ribs are super tender and surprisingly easy to prepare with just a few basic ingredients.

One of the best advantages of this oven-to-grill method is the flexibility it offers. You can complete the oven portion of the recipe a day in advance, allowing the ribs to cool and rest overnight in the refrigerator. The next day, simply bring them to room temperature and finish them on the grill for a quick and impressive meal. This makes entertaining a breeze, as you can spread out the prep work and reduce stress on the day of your event. And if you’re preparing these magnificent ribs for Dad on Father’s Day, he doesn’t need to know just how simple they were to create. That can be our little secret!

Honey Chipotle Ribs are sweet, spicy, and exceptionally tender. This recipe is simple to follow with basic ingredients!

Choosing Your Cuts: Quality Pork for Unforgettable Flavor

For this delightful recipe, I recommend using Smithfield St. Louis Style Ribs. These ribs are known for their meaty profile and uniform shape, making them ideal for grilling and slow cooking. When you’re stocking up on barbecue essentials this Father’s Day or for any summer gathering, Walmart is an excellent destination. They consistently offer great deals on grilling favorites like ribs, ensuring you get quality pork at a fantastic value. Look for Smithfield or Farmland ribs in the meat case – every cut of their hand-trimmed, extra-tender fresh pork is proudly raised right here in the USA, guaranteeing a product you can trust for your family’s table. Crafting the Perfect Honey Chipotle Flavor

The magic of these ribs lies in their unique flavor profile: a delightful dance between sweet honey and smoky, spicy chipotle. The ribs are first generously brushed with honey, which not only adds a beautiful sweetness but also helps create a wonderful sticky glaze as they cook. Following the honey, a homemade rub featuring chipotle chili powder is applied. Chipotle chili powder is a star ingredient here, offering a significantly richer, smokier heat compared to regular chili powder. This deep, smoky spice is what truly sets these ribs apart. If you prefer a milder heat or can’t find chipotle chili powder, you can substitute it with regular chili powder, but I highly recommend adding about ½ teaspoon of cayenne pepper to bring back some of that fiery kick. Together, these elements create a complex and irresistible flavor that will have everyone reaching for more.

After the honey and rub are applied, the ribs are securely wrapped in a double layer of heavy-duty aluminum foil. This crucial step creates a moist environment, allowing the ribs to slow-cook to perfection in the oven. The foil traps steam, ensuring the meat becomes incredibly tender and infused with all the aromatic spices. Once slow-cooked, a generous coating of your favorite BBQ sauce is brushed on, and the ribs hit a hot grill for just 10 to 20 minutes. This final grilling stage is where the magic happens: the sauce caramelizes, forming a delicious sticky bark, and the ribs develop those coveted char marks, adding an extra layer of smoky flavor and texture. The result is tender, juicy ribs, ready to be the centerpiece of any summer celebration.

Honey Chipotle Ribs - these super tender ribs are easy to make with just a few basic ingredients.

These tender Honey Chipotle Ribs are grilled until they develop a wonderful char and are both sweet and spicy. Prepare them using our simple oven-to-grill method for guaranteed tenderness and mouth-watering flavor. Perfect for any gathering!

Ingredients

  • 1 rack St Louis Style Ribs (spareribs)
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2-3 teaspoons chipotle chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • BBQ Sauce, your favorite (Kansas City style recommended)

Instructions

  1. With a sharp knife, carefully remove the thin membrane on the back of the ribs. This step is crucial for achieving maximum tenderness. Rinse the ribs thoroughly under cold water and pat them completely dry with paper towels.
  2. Generously brush both the front and back sides of the ribs with honey. Ensure an even coating for sweetness and optimal caramelization.
  3. In a small bowl, combine the chipotle chili powder, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well to create your dry rub. Sprinkle this rub liberally over the ribs, concentrating about 75% of it on the meaty side. Wrap the seasoned ribs tightly in a double layer of heavy-duty aluminum foil. Let them sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  4. Preheat your oven to 275 degrees Fahrenheit (135 degrees Celsius). Place the foil-wrapped ribs on a sturdy baking sheet and cook in the preheated oven for 2 hours and 30 minutes. This low-and-slow oven cooking is key to their tenderness. After baking, remove from the oven and let cool slightly. For convenience, you can refrigerate them overnight at this stage and proceed with grilling the next day.
  5. When ready to grill, preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Carefully remove the rack of ribs from the aluminum foil. Generously brush both sides of the ribs with your preferred BBQ sauce.
  6. Place the sauced ribs on the hot grill, meaty side down. Grill for approximately 5-10 minutes, or until you achieve beautiful char marks and the sauce begins to caramelize. Flip the ribs over and grill for another 5-10 minutes on the other side.
  7. Serve your delicious Honey Chipotle Ribs immediately with extra BBQ Sauce on the side for dipping. Enjoy the sweet, spicy, and perfectly tender results!
